* LOTS of activity in the tropics today…
* Gustav is now a tropical storm over the LA/TX border. It will slowly turn north and then northeast, and will not impact Alabama’s weather in any significant fashion.
* Hanna is a hurricane. It will push north, then curve northeast, and should make landfall along the GA/SC coast…as a Cat 1 or 2 storm….Places like Savannah and Charleston will be keeping a wary eye on Hanna in the days to come.
* Ike is a tropical storm - still over the central Atlantic. It’s forecast to become a hurricane as it pushes west. Still a long way from land, but this one could threaten the SE US coast at some point next week..Just too early to tell.
* T.D. Ten has formed this morning… It’s just off the African coast and is no imminent threat to the U.S. It’s forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm and then a hurricane. Should it do that, it would be named Josephine.
* Of these storms, I get the idea that IKE is the one that stands the best chance of becoming a Gulf of Mexico issue…We’ll be keeping a close eye on things in the tropics in the days ahead.
