* DODGING SHOWERS… A narrow band of showers extends south from the remnants of Gustav this morning. That band of showers, with a few storms thrown in, will slowly push into Alabama today. I still get the idea that the best chance of rain today will be west of I-65.
Tomorrow, that band will be a bit farther east - so we’ll see those showers over the remainder of central Alabama. However, as time goes by, the band of rain gets weaker. So, we have only a small chance of rain in the forecast tomorrow. For those heading to the Alabama or Auburn home games, bring the rain gear in case, but you probably won’t have to use it.
* TROPICAL TRIO… Ike is still the one we’re watching…Here’s a summary of the entire situation:
Hanna is closest to the coast - but with shear and dry air hammering the tropical storm, it probably won’t become a hurricane.
Ike is a major hurricane - Cat 3 - with max sustained winds of 125 mph. It’s heading west. Here’s the forecast:
* Everyone along the East Coast and Gulf Coast should continue to monitor Ike - there is considerable uncertainty in the forecast for this hurricane.
* Josephine remains over the open Atlantic - not a powerful storm, not a big concern at this point…
